"In the four
hours between leaving Thomas and
Alfred and sitting down
to watch Roman Holiday, I believed
I looked like Audrey Hepburn. This
would be pleasant under any circumstance;
for me it was truly
transformative. When my hair grew long
enough after chemo to cut, I
spent weeks watching women. I picked
the friend with the coolest-by-far
haircut in Cambridge, and she sent
me to Thomas. I walked in wearing a
hat to hide the awkward clumps of hair
that made me look and feel sick.
I left feeling -- and looking -- beautiful.
I laughed when I watched
the movie. Audrey Hepburn was half
my age, and we looked nothing alike
except for two things that Thomas had
given me: a gorgeous haircut and
a sense of radiance."

Thank you, Alfred, for a great haircut, but for much more. You give me great styling advice side-by-side with encouragement and friendship. I feel more beautiful and self-assured when I leave your shop than I did an hour before. You are one of my secrets of success and one that I am happy to share with others!
Warmest Regards, Kate Kohler

"When I moved
to Boston in 1989 for graduate school,
I saw a woman on campus with great
hair so I asked her where she got
her hair cut and she said "Alfred's
in Harvard Square" so I made an appointment
immediately and I knew from my first
cut why she was so enthusiastic about
recommending him. When I graduated
in 1991 and moved away I was sad
to leave some of my favorite things
here including Alfred but as luck
would have it I moved back in 1999
and was thrilled to see that Alfred
was still there in Harvard Sq. I
frequently get asked about recommendations
and everyone I have ever sent to
Alfred's has always thanked me for
the introduction. Over the
years I think everyone there has
trimmed my hair at least once and
several times I have gotten stopped
on the street as I was on my way
to my next meeting with a comment
about what great hair I have. I
think I have good hair but Alfred
makes me have great hair and since
I have met him I have had more than
my fair share of great hair days. I
have many friends and family who
are regulars (my husband goes every
3-4 weeks in fact) and I think we
all agree that everything goes better
with a great haircut. Life
is too short for bad hair! "

"Thomas and Alfred have always supported
the Dandelion School, a multicultural
child care center in Cambridge, by
giving gift certificates for the fundraising
auction. As the years went by and parents
became "forever clients" of them, their
donations became hot items each year
as parents enthusiastically yelled
out their praises during the bidding
and had the proof on their heads for
instant recommendations. Four members
of my family alone are devotees! Kathy

"I see Thomas
on Friday nights, and I don't know
how he does it - he turns me from
a completely exhausted mom, tired
from traveling all week, to someone
that actually looks - good! I'm embarrassed to say it, but
I've sifted through dozens of
hairdressers in the US and London,
trying to find someone that can make
a short haircut look feminine - Thomas
is the only one that has been
able to pull it off. I regularly
get stopped and asked - "I just
love
your hair - where do you get it done?",
so now I just carry his card
and smile as though it is the first
time I've been given such a
compliment.
As for the color, I'm Susan Lucci
brown...to cover up the nasty grays
that sprung up sometime between
saying "I
do" and my son's 3rd
birthday. As I get older, and the
grays are becoming more prominent,
Thomas and Alfred have been able
to cover them up so that they are
the
only people that know about them...and
that's exactly the way it
should be between a woman and her
hairdresser."

yes, I drive into the big city for

"Anna has been
doing my nails-fingers and toes-
on a regular basis for years. Her
location now at The Alfred Harvard
Square salon is a comfortable setting,
with friendly engaging staff and stylists.
